Qipottery is thrilled to introduce our latest selection: Charcoal-Roasted Whitebud Qilan.

This unique oolong, obscure as compared to many of its fellow oolong counterparts, originates from Zhangzhou, Fujian.

Grown on a 1,544.8 meters elevation Daqin Mountain, the high-altitude terroir and misty climate of Daqin Mountain provide the perfect environment for Whitebud Qilan’s cultivation. These natural conditions contribute to the tea’s delicate orchid fragrance and complex flavor profile, distinguishing it from other oolongs. The cooler temperatures and pure mountain air give the leaves a unique character, reflecting the essence of its origin.

Whitebud Qilan is a specialty of Pinghe County, a historically significant tea-growing region in Fujian. The tea derives its name from the “Baiya” (white buds) that emerge during spring, which are pale green and delicate. The name “Qilan” (奇兰) refers to its distinctive orchid-like fragrance, a key feature that sets it apart from other teas.

Tasting Notes and Aroma

• Fragrance: Dry leaves emit a subtle, lingering floral fragrance that becomes much more pronounced after brewing, releasing a refreshing and uplifting orchid aroma.
• Flavor: Rich, smooth, and bold, this tea has a thick, almost creamy mouthfeel. Its taste is reminiscent of Dan Cong and Wuyi Rock teas, offering a robust and full-bodied profile. The deep, roasted notes from the charcoal roasting process give way to a long-lasting sweet aftertaste (回甘) that remains on the palate, providing a balanced contrast between freshness and depth.
